African Violet

African violets (Saintpaulia, now reclassified as Streptocarpus sect. Saintpaulia) are popular tropical houseplants native to the rocky rainforests of Tanzania and Kenya in East Africa.

These compact, rosette-forming plants feature velvety, fleshy leaves and produce violet, pink, white, blue, or bicolor flowers that can bloom year-round indoors with proper care.

Despite their name, they are not true violets but belong to the Gesneriad family and are prized for their ability to thrive in bright, indirect light and stable, warm conditions.
