String of bananas can handle temperatures up to 110 degrees!

Here in the northeast, where it gets below 30F outside in the colder months, move your plant indoors for the winter. Use string to support trailing vines.

String of bananas (Senecio radicans) displays cascading vines of succulent, banana-shaped leaves year round and tiny lavender, yellow or white blooms during fall and winter.

This interesting plant is known by a variety of names, including necklace plant, string of fishhooks, creeping berry, banana vine or string of pearls.

Native to Africa, string of bananas is a fast-growing plant with vines that ultimately reach lengths of at least 36" (3ft).

The leaves are somewhat transparent, which allows light to shine through.

The small flowers have a pleasant, cinnamon-like scent.

String of bananas enters a period of dormancy during the winter.

Water less frequently during this time, providing just enough moisture to keep the plant from becoming bone dry.
