The Snake Plant (Sansevieria) cleans air better than most other indoor plants, as it has the ability to absorb excessive amounts of carbon monoxide.

Additionally, it emits oxygen, and filters other toxins from the air such as benzene, xylene, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde!

These are one of the best houseplants for beginners and for their striking displays.

Snakes excellent in a grouping, and will grow equally well on the floor, or on table-top displays.

Native to tropical Africa, the biggest danger is over-watering, especially in the winter. 

Although they are very forgiving, the Sansevieria (the genus from which the Snake Plant originates) prefers bright light with some sun. 

They can adapt to full sun.

Let the soil dry between waterings.

During winter, reduce watering to monthly, or whenever the soil is dry to the touch.

Err on the side of under-watering.

Sansevieria prefer warmth, and will suffer if exposed to temperatures below 50ºF.

Provide a loose, well-drained potting mix.

They will do well in sandier soils.

Feed a mild cactus fertilizer during the growing season.

Do not incorporate any type of fertilizer during the winter season.
