Gynura aurantiaca, also known as the Purple Passion or Velvet Plant, is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae.
It is native to Southeast Asia, but grown in many other places as a houseplant.
Purple passion plant grows best in medium or bright light, and when the soil is kept moist, but not wet.
It tolerates dry soil relatively well, so if you forget to water it every now and again, you don't have to worry about it dying.
But, this unique houseplant looks best if given a regular supply of water.
The ideal daytime temperatures for the purple passion plant are between 60 and 75 F, so it grows best as an indoor plant.
Grow purple heart in full sun for best color development.
Plants growing in shade tend more to green than purple.
Pinch the plants to promote more compact growth.
Plants are drought tolerant and thrive on neglect, but also tolerate frequent watering.
If you choose to use it as ground cover outdoors, find a spot that stays close to its best temperature range throughout the growing season.
Purple Passion plants will live two or three years when well cared for, but this limited lifespan doesn't mean the end of the road for your garden display!
It is fairly easy to propagate, so that you can keep a plant going for as long as you wish.
We do not warranty or guarantee any living plant. No returns or exchanges on live plants. All sales are final on live plants
