The Homalomena Selby is a rare tropical plant that loves humidity.
It's pretty recognizable, with green foliage that has a pattern of dark green spots and specks.
The leaves grow outward in a long spiral that seem almost like a tango dance with its roots.
The Homalomena Emerald Gem is a straight plant with waxy, dark green leaves.
Since these beauties are often about 12″ to 30″ tall, they work well in areas with height limitations.
While an Emerald Gem plant belongs to an easy-care family, it’s a little more selective and needs more attention.
These rare, uncommon houseplants are relatively easy to care for, as they are low light tolerant.
Provide plenty of warmth and indirect light during the growing season so they can produce new growth.
Allow the top half of the soil where Homalomena resides to dry out between watering.
They do not like soggy soil, but also do not like to dry out for extended periods of time.
The soil between watering should be moderately moist.
Excess water at a low temperature leads to yellowing of the leaves of the chomalone.
Your Homalomena will do well in average household humidity, but will appreciate added humidity from misting or adding a humidifier nearby.
