Heuchera is a genus of herbaceous perennial plants in the family Saxifragaceae, all native to North America.
Common names include alumroot and coral bells.
They have palmately lobed leaves on long petioles, and a thick, woody rootstock.
The genus was named after Johann Heinrich von Heucher (1677–1746), an 18th-century German physician.
There are approximately 37 species, but the taxonomy of the genus is difficult because the species often inter-grade with one another, hybridization is common, and the flowers change markedly in proportion as they develop.
Heuchera make excellent foliage plants for sun to part shade gardens.
Most flowers are not as impressive as the foliage, but they do add a second level of interest.
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in sun to part shade.
The root stalk tends to grow upwards, so mulch annually to keep covered.
We do not warranty or guarantee any living plant. No returns or exchanges on live plants. All sales are final on live plants.
