Bearing fruit!
Size: 10" $75
Psidium guajava, the common guava, yellow guava, lemon guava, or apple guava is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
It is easily pollinated by insects.
When cultivated, it is pollinated mainly by the common honey bee, Apis mellifera.
The plant is a large shrub with thick glossy green oval leaves and white flowers.
The fruits are round, up to 2" in diameter, and contain many hard seeds.
The soft pulp has a strawberry-like flavour.
Guava plants thrive in any soil with good drainage and full sun for best flowering and fruit production.
Guava fruit trees are tropical to subtropical, and may achieve 20' in height.
Growing guavas requires cold protection, and is not suitable growing outdoors in most zones of the United States.
Grow guava in a pot filled with any fresh, good quality potting mix.
Be sure the pot has a good drainage hole in the bottom.
Place the tree in full sunlight during the winter months.
If possible, move the tree to a sunny outdoor location during spring, summer and fall, but bring inside when it gets chilly.
Fortunately for northern gardeners, guava growing indoors is very doable.
If conditions are right, you may be rewarded some fragrant blooms and sweet fruit.
