Clethra alnifolia is a species of flowering plant in the genus Clethra of the family Clethraceae, native to eastern North America from southern Nova Scotia and Maine south to northern Florida, and west to eastern Texas.

Easily grown in average, medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade.

Prefers part shade and consistently moist, acidic, sandy soils.

Water regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during the first growing season. 

Soil should not be allowed to dry out.

Tolerates clay soils.
