Tradescantia pallida is a tender evergreen perennial native to northeast Mexico, from Tamaulipas to Yucatan.

It is typically grown as an ornamental, for its striking purple foliage.

Easily grown in rich, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade.

If you want some Deep Purple, drench this beauty in sunlight.

Shelter from strong winds, as it can damage the fragile stems.

Water freely in dry weather.

Drought tolerant once established.

Close to a disease free plant as there is in nature.

You can also grow the plant all year round as an indoor plant.

It's one of the easiest plants to root, which means you can start your own with a cutting.

The long, violet-purple leaves grow to about 6"-7".

Either planted somewhere on your property grounds or in a container, it looks like a wave of purple.

Summer is when the Purple Heart blooms, and the light pink flowers make for a colorful show in your garden.
