Schefflera 'amate' actinophylla 6" 10"
Schefflera 6" 10"
Schefflera 'amate' actinophylla is a flowering plant in the family Araliaceae, native to Taiwan.
Schefflera are not difficult plants to grow, providing you supply plenty of indirect light, warmth and humidity.
In very cold climates, bottom heat might be necessary.
Leggy schefflera can be pruned to encourage a more full plant.
An under-watered, cold schefflera will begin to drop leaves quickly, so take leaf-drop seriously and move to correct the problem.
If you lose all the leaves, but you want to save the plant, move it outside in the spring, give it lots of water, and it should leaf back out.
Provide bright, indirect light.
In the summer, move it outside if possible under a shady overhang.
Schefflera appreciate a lot of humidity and moist compost.
Water weekly during the growing season and spray frequently.
Cut back water during winter.
They suffer below 60ºF.
Do not expose to drafts or dry heating vents.
Feed fertilizer twice weekly during growing season with liquid fertilizer or use two applications of slow-release pellets.
Scheffs are heavy feeders!
The Schefflera amate - it has a beautiful, rounded form.
It will develop into a tree form as it ages, but you can pinch it back to keep its size.
It will take up a lot of space in your home because it grows a bit wider as it grows tall.
Rotate this beauty every three months or so to prevent it from positioning itself to the nearest light source.
Yes, plants are very intelligent!
