Peony

Also known as Peonies

5g $220

Referred to as The King of Flowers, Peonies symbolize prosperity, good luck, love and honour.

Peonies were the official national flower of China until 1929.

Under the reign of the Sui Dynasty, from 581 to 618 A.D., peonies were featured prominently throughout the palace, including on the royal throne itself.

There, the “king of flowers” is thought to signify nobility, honor, and wealth.

The peony is named after Paeon, also spelled Paean, a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing.

In Greek mythology, when Asclepius became jealous of his pupil, Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower.

The peony, or paeony, is a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia, the only genus in the family Paeoniaceae.

Peonies are native to Asia, Europe and Western North America.

Botanists differ on the number of species that can be distinguished, ranging from 25 to 40, although the current consensus is 33 known species.

Peonies are herbaceous perennials that come back every year, and they will never fail  to take your breath away.
