Celosia is a small genus of edible and ornamental plants in the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae.

The generic name is derived from the Ancient Greek word kḗleos, meaning "burning," and refers to the flame-like flower heads.

Species are commonly known as woolflowers, or if the flower heads are crested by fasciation, cockscombs.

You can grow this sun-lover on a windowsill or in a sunroom.

Don't have a sunny spot indoors?

Moving your celosia plant outdoors for the spring and summer will give it the sunlight it needs to bloom.

Celosia plants require a minimum of eight hours of direct sunlight and soil that drains quickly.

Poorly draining planting sites can cause them to develop root rot.

Celosia can be planted in the garden in the spring when temperatures will remain above 60F.

They will be damaged if the temp drops lower than that.

Immediately after planting them, water them generously to settle the soil around the roots.

A 3" layer of organic mulch can be spread around your Celosia to control weeds and help maintain moisture levels.

Water them as often as necessary to keep the soil consistently moist.
