Black Mystic 4" $45

Cryptanthus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae, sub-family Bromelioideae.

The genus name is from the Greek words cryptos. which means hidden, and anthos, which means flower.

The common name for any Cryptanthus is "Earth Star".

Black Mystic is a wide starry rosette of undulating chocolate-purple cardboard leaves (of zonatus blood) with dramatic platinum bars.

Cryptanthus makes an ideal houseplant.

Keeping them around 60 to 85 degrees F will allow these bromeliad beauties to thrive.

As tropical jungle plants, Cryptanthus prefers relatively humid conditions, which you can create by using a room humidifier or misting the plant frequently.

As mentioned above, Cryptanthus thrive in humid conditions, and you should make efforts to keep them moist.

However, most bromeliads are fairly tolerant of drought conditions.

Never allow your Earth Star to rest in standing water.

A moderately damp environment is moisture enough for these plants.

Indirect light throughout the day is the best option.

When grown indoors, place it at any window, except a large southern-facing window in the US Northeast, where it may get too much direct bright sunlight.

Cryptanthus needs lots of sunlight, but not direct sunlight.

The bright UV rays can scorch the leaves and end its existence, like the Death Star.

The Death Star was the Empire’s ultimate weapon: a moon-sized space station with the ability to destroy an entire planet.

But the Emperor and Imperial officers underestimated the tenacity of the Rebel Alliance, who refused to bow to this technological terror.
