An apple is an edible fruit produced by an apple tree.
Apple trees are cultivated worldwide, and are the most widely grown species in the genus Malus.
The tree originated in Central Asia, where its wild ancestor, Malus sieversii, is still found today!
Apple trees thrive when growing in a location that receives full sun and has a well-drained, fertile soil.
Full sun translates to at least 6-8 hours of sunlight during the growing season.
Once established, apples require very little care throughout the year.
Water apples during dry spells, and from when the fruit starts to swell, particularly if they are newly planted or in containers.
Prune yearly to maintain size and form once your apple tree has filled in and is bearing fruit.
Pruning reduces disease by letting in more light and air.
Large trees may need more pruning.
Prune your mature tree when it is dormant.
